đź“‹ Pre-Register for Immigration & Customs using Visit Japan Web Internet Site
Japan’s Visit Japan Web service allows international visitors to complete their immigration and customs information before arriving in Japan. While participation is optional, using the service can make your arrival process faster and more convenient.
Before You Begin
Have the following information available:
- Passport
- Flight information
- Hotel name and address
- Email address
What You’ll Do
The registration process consists of a few simple steps:
- Create your account.
- Register your upcoming trip.
- Complete your immigration information.
- Complete your customs declaration.
- Obtain your QR code.
Before You Fly
Once your registration is complete:
- Verify that your information is correct.
- Display your QR code.
- Take a screenshot of the QR code and save it on your phone for offline access.
Although airport Wi-Fi is available, having your QR code stored on your device allows you to move through immigration and customs even if your internet connection is slow or unavailable.
How the Digital Registration Works:
Step 1: Account Setup *(Requires email & passport)*
Each adult must create a permanent account with a unique username and password on the official Visit Japan Web portal. You will register your personal details and passport information.
Step 2: Register Your Schedule (Have flight info ready)
Once logged in, select “Register New Planned Entry/Return” and title your trip. Fill out your flight numbers and landing dates.
*Pro Tip:* Typing your hotel’s Japanese zip code into the portal will automatically fill out the remaining state and street address fields for you. Click “Register Plan” to lock it in.
Step 3: The Disembarkation Card (Immigration info)
Click into your registered trip plan and select the **Disembarkation Card for Foreigners**. Answer the standard international entry questions regarding your length of stay and intent, then click “Register”.
Step 4: The Customs Declaration (Baggage info)
Select the Declaration of Personal Effects and Unaccompanied Articles option. Complete the digital questionnaire detailing your luggage contents, and click “Register” to finalize your customs profile.
Step 5: Display and Capture Your QR Code (Crucial offline step)
Navigate back to your trip’s main procedure page, scroll to the bottom, and select “Display QR Code.”
*System Update:* The portal unifies your data into a **single, unified QR code** that handles both Immigration Clearance and Customs Declaration seamlessly. Check that your code explicitly states *“QR code for immigration clearance and Customs declaration.”*
📱 **The Crucial Offline Step:** Take a clear screenshot of this unified QR code and save it to a dedicated album on your phone. Cellular networks and terminal Wi-Fi can be notoriously slow or congested in the terminal arrivals hall; having this screenshot ready allows you to scan through the digital arrival kiosks completely offline.
